OK... I seldom or barely do lenghty reviews of movies... But this time is different... #RogueOne #Spoilers #SpoilerAhead if u haven't watched it.
It's not really a review, but an emotional roller coaster ride for me. (because Star Wars is a Disney franchise, so allow me to sing ... ♬♪♩...over, sideways, and under... On a magic carpet ride... Unbelievable sights. Indescribable feelings. Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling, through an endless diamond sky ♬♩♪)
I only had time to watch it today, 01/01/17, barely a week after Carrie Fisher's (Princess Leia) passing. So the feelings of loss & shock are still raw, cz she's the first princess I looked up to when I was a kid (screw useless damsels in distress Snow White, Aurora Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella) who actually kicked Storm Trooper's butts, yielded a laser blaster, got stuck in garbage chute and talked down to Vader.
Ok... Enough of gushing about Leia, whom I nearly named my baby girl after.
I didn't read the synopsis, I only knew Donnie Yen and Vader would appear. That's all.
So I didn't know what to expect.
1. When Mon Mothma told Bail Organa, " Your friend, the Jedi"
I was at the edge of my seat, and in my heart, I was thinking and wishfully hoping, would there be a next spin off, where Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-wan Kenobi @ Ben Kenobi who's in hiding after the Great Jedi Purge Order 66 (Episode III)?
2. I saw R2D2 & C3PO! Familiar characters ! And was that Bib Fortuna I saw at Saw Gererra's hide out?!
3. In Episode V, the AT-AT were in Hoth, snowy place. Now, they're at a tropical seaside. Vast contrast, but still gave me goose bumps nonetheless.
4. K-2SO is so likeable that I'd love to see more of him... Finally, they learned not to put irrelevant characters like that JarJar Binks (thank God). Too bad, K2 is killed off. Wouldn't it be better if they killed off that JarJar Binks instead?
5. When they showed Vader in the capsule, again, I drifted to my wishful thinking again. I was hoping if there is a second spin-off (with Ben Kenobi), they'd feature a badly burned and injured Anakin (Hayden Christensen) who have just gotten into his role as Vader. Then the master & protege will have yet another duel.
Who would I swoon over more? Ewan McGregor or Hayden Christensen? U guess!
6. When Vader went on a killing spree, he reminded me of his bad-tempered grandson Kylo Ren. Well, the temper runs in the family, right? i thought he's a young Vader (I haven't watched the ending yet), and thus, haven't really gotten his temper under control.
7. Admiral Raddus... What can I say... Only one thing, which I told my son --- Look! It's Admiral Ackbar's grandpa! (Or is he Ackbar's dad?!)
8. I expected another two episodes from Rogue One team, that would lead to Episode IV... Didn't expect them all to 冚家富贵.
Didn't expect Donnie Yen to die, too.. He'd have been made a Jedi lah...
9. I half expected Cassian and Jyn to be a couple (play It's Written In the Stars by Elton John & Leann Rimes) and they'd be Rey's parents.
10. When Princess Leia appeared... Omigosh... I nearly burst into tears (yes, still feeling raw about her passing)... And she said, "Hope"...
How I wish I could just embrace her... — feeling emotional.
